Giving Back

When having your joint replacement surgery at CIAO, you are giving to those who share in your discomfort, yet do not have the option of surgical treatment. Our continued support of Walk Nicaragua, a non-profit, mission-based, medical outreach organization that provides total knee replacements and other orthopedic surgical services to the citizens of Nicaragua is just one of the many ways we give back. In addition, we also support local organizations such as One80 Place that provides nightly shelter and re-housing assistance to move people out of homelessness, Dock Street Theatre, South Carolina Aquarium, Water Mission, Coastal Conservation League among many other.

Dr. Schutte has formed a mission team in conjunction with One World Health, known as Walk Nicaragua. The team of surgeons, nurses, physical therapists and volunteers donate their time and money to provide joint replacement surgeries and other orthopedic services to the citizens of Nicaragua. Dr. Schutte has made a 10 year commitment to serve Nicaragua. In the first 2 years, we were able to provide more than 60 surgeries, with the help of over 50 volunteers and raising nearly $200,000 dollars.

More than 75% of Nicaraguans live on less than $2 a day. Without the aid of medical missions, total joint replacements are not possible for the average citizen. These trips are made possible solely by in-kind donations, team fundraising, and contributions from our kind patients, family, and friends.
